Chief Prognosticator » I Am the American Dream

I Am the American Dream

OK, so Britney Spears already stole that phrase when she wore it on a t-shirt, but “being the American Dream” is more than just being a celebrity. The American Dream is, at its heart, about the promise of America and the ability for anyone in the society to pull themselves up and become a success with hard work and luck. As opposed to “old money” wealth — that is, wealthy families and individuals derived from inherited wealth — the American Dream means people from low socioeconomic classes to become successful and wealthy in their own lifetime. This success makes them part of what is called the Nouveau Riche. A French term meaning literally “New Rich”, the Nouveau Riche represent success in its truest form — self made success. From real estate moguls to Silicon Valley types, dry cleaner chain owners to President Bill Clinton, these people used their talents and hard work to come from nothing and create wealth and success made to last. There is even a “Nouveau Riche University” teaching people like you and me how to manage their money and build real wealth from real estate and investments. You’ve heard of the “Millionaire Next Door” right? Well its the same principle — take the right steps, act widely, work hard and you are almost guaranteed to become rich and successful. Its no secret — just things that we usually overlook or are not aware of in the first place. You TOO can be the American Dream.

I would agree that you need to study and spend time with people who are heading in the same direction. As a RE investor for over 20 years I have learned the it takes time to learn how to be a successful RE investor. Like many before me and many after me you can learn most of what you need from books that in the library and in bookstores. You can read for free is cash is an issue.

A budding investors also needs to attend local RE investor meetings where you can talk shop with other investors who are actively doing deals.

Do be careful about spending serious money on seminars, boot camps and weekend retreats. While some can be packed with information the details are rarely unique and mostly available from other cost effective sources.

More than once I have provided people with a list of steps so they can get started. Reading combined with specific action is the key. Too much reading with no action or too much action without reading leads to a loss of time and money.

Striking a balance between feeding your mind while pounding the pavement is the key.

Seasoned RE investors are very willing to share. Just ask them for advice. Better yet, find one locally and take them to lunch. You pay for the mean and you get their undivided attention.

Good hunting and pay it forward when you have some success.

If I remember correct, the Nouveau Riche University use some type of network marketing approach to recruiting new students. I’m not knocking it, because I read an article on it, and it seems like a really good place for people to learn about real estate investing and property development.
